Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple
The Brihadisvara temple at Gangaikonda Cholapuram was built by Rajendra Chola I to celebrate his victorious march to the Ganges, and the city served as the Chola capital for about 250 years. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Great Living Chola Temples", together with Thanjavur and Darasuram. See the huge Shiva lingam, the large Nandi facing the shrine, the lion-faced well (Simha Kinaru) and the fine stone sculptures, including Chandesanugraha murti.
